Flann O'Brien

"A little part of Ireland in the heart of Barcelona", runs the rather dubious tagline to this superior Irish pub. I would hardly describe Francesc Macià as the "heart of Barcelona", but we should forgive them this misleading boast, since the Flann O'Brien's location in the St Gervasi area is probably the worst thing about it. It's a shame that it's not in the heart of Barcelona since many people will miss it, then again, if it were in, say, Plaça Reial the hordes of beered up hooligans would no doubt turn it into quite a different beast. As it is, this pub is one of the best of its kind in town. The staff are particularly friendly and quick and have the endearing habit of pre-emptively offering you another pint, prompting the inevitable "Well, I shouldn't really, but go on then" response. There are several tellies which regularly show football and if there is more than one important match on at the same time, both are usually shown. It can be quite surprisingly dark, even for an Irish pub, but that's by no means a bad thing. It also gets extremely warm in summer, so make sure that an embarrassing t shirt doesn't lurk underneath your jumper as you'll soon be peeling off the extra layers. The icing on the cake is the live music every Friday and Saturday from 11:30pm onwards. It may not quite be the number one Irish pub in town, but it's hard to fault and is definitely up there in the top bracket.

Great for football and one of the few pubs in its area, the nearest other one probably being La Bolsa.

This was one of my favorite bars in Barcelona because it was close to my home and the bartenders here are amazing! They have great choices of drinks and a great atmosphere!
