Chatelet

★★★★ : €€€
C/Torrijos, 54
Metro Fontana L3 : Joanic L4
A close cousin of nearby St Germain, Chatelet boasts the same winning combination of qualities that have made the former such a hit: eclectic furniture, soft lighting, vibrant decor and a film projector filling the wall with arty and often bizarre slideshows. Perfectly positioned near the Verdi Park cinema, it´s the ideal place for a post, or indeed pre, movie-going tipple. The atmosphere is always bubbly but not deafening and the bar is usually busy without being maddeningly packed to the proverbial rafters. Cocktails are a typical 5€ and bottled beers are 2€, not the cheapest prices in the area but a real bargain considering the frankly superb ambience. It´s not a bar for hardcore drinkers and you won´t see anyone stumbling around in a steaming stupor causing mischief. The clientele tends to be young, bohemian and chatty and the bar staff seems to be predominantly foreign. Featuring possibly the highest concentration of comfy chairs and sofas anywhere in Gracia, Chatelet is an exceedingly cosy venue for a few hours of putting the world to rights over several coffees or caipirinhas.

Although I agree with Paul's review, I'd like to add that I've always found this place a little frustrating as I never seem to get a seat and have to fight with the bar staff for service! A bar for the early-birds and those with the patience of Mother Teresa!

They do lovely, though hefty, ciabatta sandwiches!

The staff can be pretty rude at Chatelet. We have been in there sometimes when the place is near empty and yet the staff won't let you sit at certain tables, they allocate some tables for 4+, 5+ people but when the bar is empty why would that matter?? I understand this when the bar is busy but when it's empty?

The brothers that own this bar also have 5 others in Gracia, all of which are fantastic with amazing staff, great food and atmosphere. Try the others, you won't be dissappointed.

nice ambience in a perfect location. Good place for an early snack and a drink before moving on to "bigger things"...
